Pictures of our life in Jacksonville

Luchy: my best friend, mi wise counselor, my lover, my nurse, my comforter, my wife, God's voice near me, in short: the medicine God provided for me 29 years ago.
She has been with me in every interview with the doctors, all tests, has felt my pains, anguishes and fevers. She always has a word or encouragement, she reads all hospital documents and the web sites that explain what I have. She also prepares the most exquisite gourmet breakfasts that brings with the most angelic smile. She keeps our children and family updated, she reads the messages from friends and family.
Nobody should get sick without having a woman like this by his side. God has been good to this sinner by giving me Luz de Maria.

Yesterday they took another half gallon of blood for more tests. This time they only filled 12 tubes and 4 bottles for this round. for the first time, they drew blood from both arms almost at the same time! They don't like to waste time here... God has been so good with me, they have always found good veins the first time. These latest studies will hopefully confirm the presence of the brusella bacteria, the possible culprit of all my symptoms.

This is the famous Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville, Florida. We live in a small hotel 75 mts from the clinic. Every day we walk by this fountain enjoying the serene gardens, the lakes and the quiet and calm of this beautiful place. The last 2 days the weather has been "decent" for us, tropical animals. The first several days, the temperature has been well below our comfort level.

Yesterday afternoon we met with a specialist in liver issues. We became a little concerned when we read in the lobby that he is an expert in liver transplants.
He explained to us that the scan revealed I have two smal cysts in my liver. He also confirmed something we already knew, that I have a fatty liver. This is a potentially dangerous condition that can turn into deadly problems, if left unattended. But the good news is that if I have a healthy diet and do regular exercises, the condition con be reversed in 6 months. The alternatives are: keep the same diet and not do exercise, I will need a liver transplant in 15-20 years. Or, I could change my diet and do regular exercise, my liver goes back to normal in 6 months.
This Thai doctor is a virtual encyclopedia of liver knowledge. He mentioned all the options that could produce a fatty liver and the cysts. When we mentioned the bruscella bacteria, he started to read all the symptoms in his computer. He finally concluded the the most probable cause of these problems in the now infamous bacteria. Even the cysts could be produced by it.
Tomorrow Thursday we will see a doctor expert in infectious diseases. We hope he will give us a more precise opinion on the presence of this bacteria in my body.

We are so grateful to God because it seems we're finally geting closer to identify the source of my maladies. The meeting tomorrow will be critical to get us closer to that final diagnostic.

On Monday we meet again our head doctor. He has the final word in this process. The ideal would be he would prescribe a treatment for our condition that we can take to Miami to be with our children and friends and start thinking about Christmas...

  1. Yes, Layo, God is good. we bless Luchy's life and we pray that God may grant her patience, strength and joy through the whole process by every good word that comes out of His mouth.

    The verse for today:

(Mat 4:4) But he answered and said, It is written, Man shall not live by bread alone, but by every word that proceedeth out of the mouth of God.
